As “The Great MSD” announces his retirement, let’s take a look at a few things that we can learn from the great finisher that India has ever produced.
Don’t think about results – Thinking about results will not take you to your destination, the most important thing is a process because you will achieve results only with the right process. Go for short-term goals and achieve something daily to achieve big in life. Work on things that are in your control instead of things you can’t control. Many times, in life you will fail but your constant actions will bring results sooner or later. Don’t think about results because you never know about the future if you don’t face the present.
Live in the Present – Try to keep things simple and live in the present by trying not to think about the past or future. Take learnings from the past and apply the knowledge in the present to make your future better. Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have, make “Now” the primary focus of your life. We are good at preparing to live, but not very good at living.
Take Action – Well done is better than well said because you are what you do, not what you say you’ll do. There will be times in life when you will be under a lot of pressure be it financial or mental however your actions in those situations will speak volumes about you as a person.
You will never know that you are a strong character unless you are pushed to the deeper or you face the heat.
Accept your Mistakes – Never be disappointed with your mistakes because humans tend to mess things up however the important point is that you analyze your mistakes and learn from them to be ready for the future. We have to be honest to ourselves, no matter if we are leaders of junior or senior management, we have to stand up and say, “I have done this mistake and will improve form next time”.
